Microsoft announces expansion of trustworthy AI Network to Europe

At the HLTH Europe conference, the Trustworthy and Responsible AI Network (TRAIN), a consortium of healthcare leaders, announced its expansion to Europe with the objective to help organisations in the region operationalize responsible AI through technology-based guardrails.

The programme’s goal is clear: to advocate for responsible AI use and establish a cohesive network for organisations to collaborate and grow together. This expansion represents a significant step towards advancing AI technology responsibly and ethically across healthcare sectors globally.

Originally launched in the US in March 2024, TRAIN aims to promote ethical AI principles, ensuring safe and ethical technology deployment. The initial US cohort included diverse healthcare organisations of varying sizes.

With TRAIN expanding to Europe, it is expected to unlock new potential across the continent amid the global race to develop impactful AI technology. The initiative aims to foster best practices sharing among members, register AI systems and algorithms, and develop metrics and tools to standardise and measure AI outcomes. It also seeks to establish a national AI outcomes registry.

“The primary goal for TRAIN is to enable individuals and organizations to operationalise responsible AI principles through technology-based guardrails. TRAIN will also enable organisations to collaborate through federated, privacy-preserving approaches. The formation of TRAIN in Europe will help foster trust and confidence in the application of AI in health and ensure that data privacy is maintained,” said David Rhew, MD, Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Healthcare, Microsoft
